Close to the centre of the thriving village of Downton, Alison Cottage is ideally placed for a holiday full of variety. A couple of miles up the road is the wonderful New Forest National Park, where the freely grazing ponies, donkeys and cattle have created a unique habitat. Lovely at any time of the year, it is particularly stunning as the trees and heathland take on their autumn colours.

Across the valley you will find a completely different, though equally beautiful, landscape of downland, farms and villages, with an extensive network of quiet roads and footpaths through the chalk hills and along the ancient droves.

Between the two is the valley of the Avon, one of the most beautiful chalk rivers in the country. The Avon Valley long distance footpath goes right past our door. A quarter of an hour's drive to the north is the medieval cathedral city of Salisbury where there is an annual arts festival in May. To the south, the spectacular coast is within easy reach.
